Character Name: Nanami Chiaki
Canon: Super Dangan Ronpa 2
Canon Point: IDK
Background/History: here

Personality: Looking at her for the first time, you really won't see much that's unique about Nanami... aside from the fact that she's a little unusual. As the Super High School Level Gamer, her skills with video games is supurb. In fact, when she's not playing a game, she's prone to falling asleep while standing up... apparently she doesn't get a lot of sleep at night because she's too busy playing games. She's also not particularly used to being social, so she has to think very carefully before speaking, and sometimes what Nanami says doesn't make particular sense. All of this combined makes her appear to be a bit of a space case.

However, Nanami's love of games also affects the way she interacts with people on a day to day basis. She makes constant video game references and she's always comparing things to something she saw in a game. For example, when another character was acting grumpy and aloof, Nanami said that she was reminded of a video game protagonist (Squall from the FF Series, most likely.) It's honestly hilarious, because while comparisons are normally used to explain things to people, usually the games she references are so obscure that she just confuses the average person even more. She's also able to tell you the year and a summary of at least every japanese game, which is incredibly impressive. Nanami's basically a huge walking encyclopedia on games, and a huge nerd to boot.

She also tends to think of her life as a game that she doesn't want to lose. So when the going gets tough, she's capable of keeping herself and other people together. She often plays peacemaker within the group, even slapping Akane on the cheek to stop her from beating up (and maybe killing, Akane is incredibly strong) Komaeda during chapter 5. Nanami's also one of the characters most opposed to a "field trip of mutual killing" (basically, she's opposed to students murdering other students.) She shows that she's actually really observant and quite clever when she's trying to solve a murder. This goes a little bit against the reader's first impression of her, as a lazy person who only plays games and sleeps. Beyond all of that and her problems with relating to people, Nanami is an incredibly kind person.

Though, as it turns out, we find out that Nanami is actually the traitor; the sixteenth student that wasn't among the original kids that came to Hope Peak's Academy. See, what happened is that after Dangan Ronpa happened, members of Super High School Level Despair were plugged into a virtual world which is actually what the island where SDR2 takes place is in... so basically, they're in a computer game. But when people are murdered in the game, they also die in real life too.

The original purpose of the program was literally as Usami/Monomi states in beginning the game: it's for everyone to make friends and create Hope so that they won't be members of Despair anymore. It's a way for everyone in the program to be cured and go on to live happy lives, basically. But since the program had a virus in it the mutual killing began instead of the friendship making.

This is very important to explain in regard to Nanami's characterization because since she's the traitor she isn't actually a person. She only exists within the program and is a string of code, an AI. She was literally created and existed within the program to help make friends and keep everyone safe, which explains her determination towards stopping the murders and being a peacemaker among the group. Nanami was programmed to combat Despair and be a beacon of Hope. It's for this reason that she's so kind and wants everyone to get along, but despite that, she was a developed AI so she had her own personality too, even with a set of fallbacks and a passion in gaming.

Abilities/Powers: Nanami's only real ability is that she's good at video games. When I say good, I mean really good. As the Super High School Level Gamer it means that basically, out of every high school student, she's the best at playing video games. To be honest this probably makes her a lot better than some adults as well. The next step up after Super High School Level is basically Olympic Level to give you a good idea at how these status work.

Items/Weapons: Her Clothing, Her Backpack, and her PSP with one game/the charging cord

Sample Entry: [ Nanami pops up on the video feed of your phone. She's holding up a device that some of you might know as a PSP: Playstation Portable. For others of you, she's holding up a black brick. Either way, she tries flicking the power on, but nothing happens. ]

... It's out of power. And it needs more.

[ She turns the phone towards herself. ]

Is it true that there's electricity in Haven North? If so, please take me there. I'll let you play too. I have Patapon with me. Released in 2007 and developed by Pyramid. It's a rhythm game where you control an army that hails you as your god. Simple, but very fun, I promise it won't disappoint.

... Now you understand why I must have electricity. Also, if anyone else came with games, we could trade for awhile, maybe. Just please be careful with my PSP.
